UBD SEBAGAI BUKTI SALAH SATU MERCU KEJAYAAN NBD

Assalammualaikum/ Salam sejahtera,

Cakap atu biar bermaruah sedikit, cakap malam dengar-dengar cakap siang pandang-pandang. Siapa Cancellor dan Pro Cancellor UBD??? Jangan pandang rendah UBD. Saya yakin visi “UBD is the World Class University” akan dapat dicapai dalam sedikit masa terdekat ini.

Adangtah kan menghina UBD, baik tah mohon ampun.

Brunei is “socially” tough …

so who really is to blame ? do we blame

  1. the government/authoritise ?
  2. the parents?
  3. the individual themselves?

Yesterday was Brunei National Day. It was a good day. At night, I took my fiancee to dinner in Lambak, then  we went to Jerudong Park’s food court to get food for our families. Because of the National Day celebration and the Firework show at Empire, the whole Jerudong area was packed with cars and bikes. (even Jerudong Beach was carpetted with cars) But thats not the issue, the issue Im speaking of is this; while I was driving around the food court in Jerudong, I was seeing too many cars parked with too many couples doing way too many things, things we’re not suppose to see in public.  I am alright with the intimate things that couples want to do, cause to be honest, I think it’s healthy if people want to explore their sexuality and experience new things at their young ages, it’s cool that they want to excel at satisfying their love ones, and its cool if they decided that this is their way to express themselves, but dont you think they could have done it someplace private ?

I even saw a guy who was grinding against his girlfriends body, whilst leaning to his car, with his friends next to him.

Have they got no shame ? Wheres the M and I from MIB ?

This is just Jerudong. What about Taman Jubilee? Bandar Seri Begawan? Gadong ? Qiulap ? It was like a mass public orgy.

Who is to blame ?

…. Our Tunas Bangsa

*Sigh*

Govt Owes Contractors $5.4 Million, Says Minister
By Izam Said Ya’akub

Bandar Seri Begawan – The government owes contractors a staggering $5.4 million as of January 2008. This was disclosed by the Minister of Development, Pehin Orang Kaya Harnzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Abdullah Begawan Mudim Hj Abu Bakar, at the launch of the Public Works Department’s roadshow in conjunction with their customer care campaign at the Civil Service Institute yesterday.

“I was made to understand that the construction contracts carried out by the Department of Building Services under the annual budget, in this year alone, has seen 150 payments to contractors have exceeded 30 days, with the payments amounting up to $6 million,” said the minister, explaining the relevance of the period of honouring certificate. The minister called for an acute monitoring of monetary flows by contractors as well as by clients. “When construction begins, a healthy cash flow is an integral factor in ensuring that works on-site can run smoothly. This is not just applicable to contractors, hut the client too,” said the minister.

Whilst the figure is small compared to the budget allocated towards government departments for construction works, it is still a sample that drew great concern. This shows that we, as civil servants and officers of the government, who are supposed to be leading by example, have failed in meeting the terms outlined in the contracts signed and agreed with contractors.” The minister stressed that this amounts to a breach of contract. “More importantly, we have tarnished the image of the government and country, which has been famed for our riches.” Pehin Dato IIj Ahdullah duly pointed: “Imagine yourself to be a contractor, if the contract payments are swallowed whole by the banks, what is left to pay suppliers or workers?”

Ultimately the minister underlined the negative spin off which “at the end of the day, we all lose.”

I didnt say it, the Minister of Development did.

Hi, this is Shai. I am a proud graduate of UBD. I am here in good heart and apologise in advance if words that I use do not befit the situation. Although I feel deeply offended by what she said I do believe that it’s age talking. So putting the emo issue aside, we highlight why she would lose her pride if she goes to UBD and then we blow this up to a logical proportion that people have opinions of UBD in both ends of the spectrum. Unfortunately she is not alone in her opinion and this should be the issue that need be focussed on I believe.

We can’t see the forest for the trees.

This is where a measly suggestion comes. All of us keep our anger and emotions aside. We now take two steps back. We analyse instead of criticise. It is easy to blame because to think demands harder strength. Which also reasons why she blames.

Complaining is useless. Pragmatic criticism is the word that you’re looking for.

And free education is not an excuse. I read a recent paper about French students SELLING SEX to pay for university education god damnmit, do you think there’s room for excuses?? I lost few friends throughout my years because they can’t afford to study, what makes you think that colleague of yours deserves validity in what she has to say?

thanks for the comments.

Just going to replies to the recent comments I’ve received.

and major countries? free education? really? may i know where? i would reaaaally like to know!

You can read about it from these websites

Scandinavian Universities

European Countries

“Free Education” from Wikipedia

do you even know how many people are struggling to get into ubd? hundreds can’t make the cut and then where the hell are they supposed to go? be grateful for what you have would you and pls don’t be too proud. dissing ubd won’t get you anywhere. if you don’t get a scholarship, hell i bet you’d go straight to ubd.

if they cant get into UBD, they could go to ITB, Business School, Cosmopolitan College, IGS College, Laksmana College, Micronet, kemuda Institute and so on. If they can afford it, they can study in Sabah, Labuan, Miri, or even kL. but if money is an issue, then better study hard to get that scholarship :)

are you saying the government sucks? Do you even know how much the government have done for us citizens? we don’t even have to pay tax goddamnit. do you know in some countries people get really poor trying to pay ther taxes off!? if you think the government sucks so much why dont you leave this country? i bet your folks work for the govt anyway. do you think without the government, you’d be who you are now?

I am saying, there are room for improvements in the Government system. Theres room for improvement in the Education System, room for improvement in our Tourism Industry and room for improvement in our Social Services department. If there wasnt a problem, we wont have people complaining about the system, we wont have problems with unemployment, we wont have issues with locals working in the SMEs, and maybe this website, wont even exist in the first place. The government has done alot yes, but there are still room for improvement.

Funny you mention taxes. In countries such as Singapore and United kingdom, tax payer’s money helps the country raise their economy. the money is used to pay for the country’s security, police, fire brigade etc. the money is also used to keep the environment clean and steady, the roads are always in good condition, the environment is kept clean and they have great social services, because thats what taxes are for. its not just about cars and houses :)

I dont hate the country :) ? Brunei is a place. Government is a system. They are 2 different things :) as said, theres room for improvement in the Government. but this place, Brunei, is home. this is where I was born. To leave the country is equivalent to giving up on the country. And I dont think I am up for that. You see me here commenting the government, but if you know me, I just want a change, the better change. I know I dont have the power to *do* anything, but *something* is better than *nothing* right? This website, is my *something*. Who knows, maybe all the government need is someone to tell them “hey, you’re doing something wrong. please fix it”

oh after reading this you’d probably hate me and start to mouth off crap, dissing this comment. but if you think about it from another side from yours, i’m sure you’ll start to realize. if not, oh well your loss. cheers.

im not 18 years old. i’d try my best to take thing as mature as possible. i dont hate you and thank you for commenting :)

we are celebrating for the peace in our country ( the crimes aint that bad, i mean so far 1 dangerous rapist? look at malaysia, some psycho is after little girls to torture them, you dont see that here, you have a problem with the crimes here you go somewhere else and heck you’d be fine the crimes cos you’re overseas? you wish we stayed with the british longer? to develop? its onlyb een 24 years, give it time. thank god you didn’t end up in africa ok.)

:) the crimes aint that bad? any crime is bad. theres prostitition, underground nightclubs, illegal gamblings, illegal distribution of alcohols, drugs, unauthorised exports of Brunei oil to the neighbouring countries and even murder. My own aunt and her family was murdered in Brunei. do your research before you comment on me.

and 24 years is not long ? how much time must be given? With all the money from oil that the country has got, wouldnt it be the perfect catalyst to speed things up ? Wasnt Malaysia under British Empire as well ? And so was Singapore. You compare us to Malaysia just now. Now its my turn to compare. Even with the crimes, they seem to be more successful that us. Take our TV channels for instance. We *need* to have TV2 and TV3 on our national TV — otherwise life will boring. but … do they have RTB on their channels? :) hey, why stop there? they have Astro!!!! And and and we’re borrowing ASTRO from them!!!!

we are celebrating for how much the country has done for us. we are celebrating for the “old saggy people” who work their asses off. we are celebrating for the sultan who has led our country amazingly. we are celebrating for the citizens in this country who are grateful enough to be in this country (minus you).

work their asses off” ….every morning, on the roads, I see labour workers in their bright orange jersey, cleaning the roads, clearing the leaves and brooming the side walks. under the hot weather, you see ladies placing parking tickets on hundreds of bruneians car parked on the roads. when the sea water rises, our fisherman down their boats, goes to the sea and catch fishes. those are what i called “working their asses off”.

silap kau atu. hahha so narrow minded kau ani. hahhahaha pikir lagi jauh2. haha pikir lagi jauh2 sebelum kau buat. bakal jua inda ku tau kau

i apologise for not able to reply your comment. your english/malay gives me headache.

its better to speak out when you’re unhappy rather than to follow like a slave, for we,  are not slaves.
